So from time to time sometimes a patient gets an aligner stuck in their mouth and we’re often asked what to do in this scenario. It’s quite an uncomfortable time, it can be quite awkward from a clinician’s point of view and it can be quite nervy from a patient’s point of view.

Luckily, there’s a very easy way to resolve this.

And it’s quite British as well. It’s called make a cup of tea, let them have a little drink on that. It’ll soften the aligner enough to calm everyone down and get the aligner out. And then we would say give the lab a call and we’ll work with you to find out what replacement appliance is needed and we’ll get that sent out ASAP.

It’s not worth stressing a patient out or yourself over to try and keep this aligner okay. There’s clearly something wrong if it’s stuck. So we would say, pop the kettle on, give them a brew, let them calm down a bit. It will slightly melt the aligner and turn it quite soft.

Get that out of there and then give the lab a call and we’ll resolve that for you.
