This is a common question we’re asked by dentists: Can I request scalloped edges on all Smilelign aligners? In this video, we explain how dentists should think about this in practice.
Smilelign aligners, by default, come with a straight finish along the gingival margin about two to three millimeters above there. That’s intended for optimal strength and optimal forces for the movements that we’re trying to achieve.
Can we scallop them and basically follow the shape of the teeth? Absolutely. And some people prefer them that way, some people don’t. But by default, we would do a straight cut.
But we can absolutely do them scallops. You just need to let us know on your prescription, and we’ll do that for you.
