Which patients are not suitable for Smilelign treatment?

This is a common question we’re asked by dentists: Which patients are not suitable for Smilelign treatment? In this video, we explain how dentists should think about this in practice.

There are a number of ways to answer this question. Number one would be from a personality point of view. If the patient’s not great at attending appointments, they don’t seem to embrace oral hygiene procedures, they just really strike you as someone who’s not going to be quite militant about wearing them all the time, then I would probably advise against that patient from having clear aligner treatment. And then on the other side of things, we’re talking about being dentally fit for treatment. So obviously subject to a standard orthodontic assessment we need to look at things like periodontal disease, is there any mobility, and really we’ve got a guide that you can follow to go through that. But it’s surprising how many people capable for this kind of treatment, or they are at least following a couple of visits to the hygienist.
