FAQs

We’ve already thought through the questions you’re asking, dive into our FAQs and find your answer in seconds!

Our frequently asked questions are here to help, packed with quick answers and helpful tips to make your experience smooth and stress-free.

We are partnered with all of the major scanning systems so it is likely that you can send your cases directly through your scanner. Just search for S4S & Smilelign to connect to us.

Alternatively, you can download your STL files and add your case directly onto our SmileGenius portal. Please click here for details.

If you are sending physical impressions,  please fill in a our prescription form and send using our freepost label, both can be downloaded here. We accept both alginate and Silicone impressions.

We require upper and lower STL scans or physical impressions, along with a bite registration. Even in single arch cases, please send both upper and lower records to allow us to account for the patient’s occlusion.

We also require a detailed prescription containing all treatment goals and any areas to avoid e.g. crowns. You can use the prescription form here as a guide for the types of information we require. (insert prescription)

We do not necessarily require photos and X-rays, but these can be helpful to the planning process if you have them available.

We do offer several training seminar packages but completion of these is not a requirement prior to sending in cases. If you are interested in booking one of our seminar packages please see more information here https://www.s4sdental.com/products/smilelign-clear-aligners-dentists-course

Once we have received and processed your work you will receive an email to the address on your account. This will include the dispatch/completion date of the work. If you are unable to find your email, you can call us on 0114 2500176 or email admin@smilelign.com.

When a plan has been uploaded for you to view, you will get an email and/ or notification of this. Login to your portal account and select the relevant patient’s profile. Within that patient’s journey status, you will be able to view the planned treatment animation, a report of all technical requirements, including IPR and attachment charts.

An optional add-on to your treatment plan, these passive aligners are used to check fit before producing active aligners and also test patient compatibility with treatment.

Smilelign aligners are to be worn 2 weeks at a time, before changing to the next aligner. For patients to make progress in line with their treatment plan, each aligner must be worn as close to 22 hours a day as possible, only removing to eat, drink or brush their teeth.

We advise drinking only cold, plain water whilst wearing aligners. Hot drinks can cause the aligner material to warp and affect the fit. Aligners should always be removed while eating.

With all Smilelign Classic cases, refinements are included for 2 years free of charge. Send us new impressions or scans of the patient and we will plan for refinement aligners to reach the desired finish position.

If a patient breaks their aligner, you can request a new one free of charge. Simply send the broken one back to us when the patient receives their new aligner and no charges will be applied.

If the patient has pre-aligners and these still fit, the plan is okay to approve.

However, if you are concerned there could have been some movement in the time between the plan and now, please send us new scans/impressions. There will be no additional charge for the replan.

There is no need to remove bonded retainers before sending scans/impressions. We can remove these in house before planning the case, just let us know if you are happy for us to remove this on the prescription. Alternatively, the bonded retainer can be removed before taking the scan/impression.

We will happily produce multiple treatment plans if you and the patient are unsure of which treatment to proceed with. Please request on your prescription which options you would like to receive, and no additional charges will be applied.

If you require a change to a treatment plan once it’s approved, we recommend contacting us ASAP. If the aligners are not yet in the production process, we can make a change to the plan as requested. If the aligners are in the production process, there will be a small fee for these changes.

There is no set time frame for treatment with Smilelign, the length of treatment is determined by how many aligners the patients require. However almost all cases are completed within 12 months. Once you receive the treatment plan, this will detail exactly how many aligners are required and how long the patient’s smile journey will take.

On the rare occasion a patient is experiencing a fitting issue, we recommend keeping the patient in the last aligner that was fully seated to avoid relapse. Send us new scans/impressions and we’ll re-assess the case mid treatment to get the patient back on track.
